Meet the Team

Behind the Burdekin Salt Project is a team with deep experience in resource development, land access, logistics and strategy – all with a shared commitment to doing things differently.

We bring together decades of knowledge across exploration, processing, infrastructure and Indigenous engagement, with a strong focus on practical, respectful and sustainable outcomes.

  • Steve White – Chairman

    Steve is a land access specialist with over 30 years’ experience in Indigenous engagement, strategic advisory and major project facilitation. He supports early-stage approvals for resource and energy projects, helping all parties navigate complex negotiations and build long-term, respectful agreements.

  • Mark Winsley – Managing Director

    Mark brings over 27 years of experience in exploration, geoscience and mining development, with a strong focus on projects across Queensland. His career spans technical services, stakeholder engagement, sustainability, safety and project evaluation. Mark is known for his practical leadership and deep understanding of what it takes to bring resource projects to life.

  • Fred White – Director

    Fred has more than 25 years’ experience in mining and processing operations. He spent 15 years at Mount Isa, working his way up from lead smelting to become General Manager of Processing and a board member of Xstrata Zinc. He later led Australia’s largest private shipping company, Sea Swift, where he grew the business to five times its value. Fred is also a Founder of the Mount Barker Mining Company.

  • Karen Read - Director

    Karen is a senior finance and commercial executive and has extensive experience with the mining and resource sector spanning 30 years. Karen is also in Non-Executive Director roles with Mount Isa Water Board, Wesley Research Institute, Cowboys Leagues Club, and is Deputy Chair of the CPA NQ Branch.  Karen's previous experience includes being a former Chair of Queensland Country Health Fund Ltd and Queensland Country Care Navigation Ltd,.  10 years of Executive Director roles, including the Chair of Northern Stevedoring Service, Director of Queensland Country Bank, Northwest Hospital and Health Service and Member of Copperstring 2032 Reference Group.

  • Joe Carey – Advisory Board Member

    Joe is a long-standing partner at the Carey Group, having joined in 1985. With a background in commerce, law and financial planning, he offers strategic advice grounded in decades of experience. Joe plays a key role in governance, helping guide the project with a long-term view.
